Executive search is the process targeted at convincing a top manager to leave his current job and accept a high responsibility position within a different company, generally a competitor.

In Romania, at least for the time being, there aren’t very many firms specializing in recruitment for executive positions, the main reason being that this type of recruitment is rather expensive, while the benefits are not always immediately perceived. Moreover, recruiters in charge with such a delicate process must be true professionals.

First of all, recruiting for high-level positions requires intelligence and a certain cultural refinement. Top managers are usually educated people who have most likely been previously involved in a recruitment process of this nature, so a good sense of language, excellent communication, interpersonal and influencing skills, as well as a high degree of tact are absolutely vital.

A subtle approach is another must for a good recruitment consultant, as he has to obtain the information he needs without giving candidates the impression they are being mercilessly questioned. The recruiter and the candidate talk as equals, therefore meetings often assume the form of a relaxed chat, during which, however, the recruitment consultant must stay focused on achieving the desired results. The success of a recruitment mission is also determined by the recruiter’s capacity to discriminate between appearance and essence, between what is relevant and what should be overlooked.
